Covid-19 Support

Are you from the BAME community or a refugee and elderly?
Do you live in Barking and Dagenham or surrounding areas?
Are you lonely, suffering from mental health issues, stress, or anxiety during this Covid-19 period?
Are you isolated and need support from an interpreter?
Please contact the Translating & Interpreting Service (TIS) on 020 8591 0050
Tell us the language you require and leave your contact number and our interpreter will call you as soon as possible.
TIS office hours are 9am-5pm, Monday – Friday. This service is available during office hours from 5th October 2020 to 31st March 2021.
TIS is working adhering to Government guidelines and advice in staying safe.

Funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, distributed by City Bridge Trust through the London Community Response Fund, has helped us to provide Interpreting support for BAME Communities during Covid-19 and bridge language barriers. Thanks to National Lottery players for making this possible.

Support funded by National Lottery Awards All and Charles S French Charitable Trust as below:

- TIS is offering support for older BAME community members and Refugees with communication by providing interpreting sessions for them, to improve the quality of their mental health and well-being.

- Our Interpreters will support engagement and re-engagement, providing language interpretation services and delivering information in languages best understood.

- TIS will offer support to tackle isolation, as language is a major hurdle for better health and mental health.

- TIS will provide the provision of language support by offering interpreting when accessing a local/national service and faced with language barriers and providing translated information leaflets that may be available.

- Support will be offered for Face-to-Face interpreting, via telephone and zoom.

- Languages available: Albanian, Bengali, Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic, Romanian, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, French, Portuguese, Somali, Turkish, Lithuanian, Hindi, Guajarati, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Farsi. If you require any other language, please let us know.

Previous Training

January 2018 – June 2018

FREE ESOL Entry Level 1,2 and 3 Classes

Translating & Interpreting Service is currently running the ESOL Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 classes which started in January 2018. They will continue running until the end of June 2018 and are currently being attended by around 65 people from our local communities. These courses are free and open to all the community members.

This training is funded by City Bridge Trust and part funded by Awards of All.

Taster ESOL Courses 2018 - 2019

TIS has currently finished some ESOL Taster Courses. Supporting 20 people from the local community to progress to further ESOL classes to imporve their language skills.
